Spa- hydrotherapy

The word SPA derives from the Latin Saunus Per Aquam and means Health Through Water.

SPA philosophy was already known by ancient Romans, who practised relaxing baths and water treatments in a daily life. Water is a source of life, it can soothe or relax, it can stimulate an activity. It firms the skin and stimulate the mind, delivering them energy and vitality.

SPA programs help to restore harmony of the body and spirit through well-chosen treatments, based on the water and inhalation therapies as well as massages. Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is the use of water (hot, cold, steam, or ice) to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being. In water therapies thermal, hydrostatic and mechanic factors feature.

Hot baths are recommended in case of neuralgia, lingering joint diseases, warm baths soothe and relax, cold baths stimulate the body. Salt baths strength and stimulate a blood circulation, they are used at joint degeneration treatments, neuralgia, rheumatic diseases and dermatology. Thalassotherapy (treatments with sea water) uses antibacterial features of the sea water. Sea mud contain alga’s that are used for dermatological and rheumatic diseases.

Thermal showers consist of overhead sprays or jets of water which can be adjusted for temperature and pressure. Overhead showers apply a light massage to the skin, while the adjustable jet ones are applied to the patient while already fully immersed in water in the bath or pool. Immersed massages are another form of the water treatments. For these treatments hydro-jets are used, giving a perfect body massage, that improve the blood circulation and metabolism, loose the muscles. The most popular form of relaxing immersed massage are: jacuzzi, whirlpool, pearl bath.

Inhalation treatments uses the following techniques: inhalation, aerosols, sprays, techniques which act directly on the respiratory system. They are used for asthma and other air-passage diseases.

Pool or big bathtub can be used as a gym. Using the baths allows some gymnastic movements to be carried out more easily since the water makes the body lighter and allows movements which would otherwise be impossible. Water training and exercises strengthen muscles without charge the joints. This treatment is a combination of a training and massage. It is recommended for people with joint and spine diseases.

During the visit to SPA our body produces the endorphins, that relieve pains and relax. Bath also acts for our senses: feeling through water temperature, seeing through its color, smelling through added aroma, hearing through its soothing noise.
